Renters Rights Act | Sevenoaks District Council

Renters Rights Act

The Renters’ Rights Act 2025 is designed to make renting fairer and safer. It introduces open-ended tenancies, abolishes ‘no-fault’ evictions, strengthens property standards, and creates new systems for dispute resolution. The Act aims to give renters greater security while ensuring landlords meet clear legal obligations.

The first phase (part 1 of the Act) relating to tenancy reform will come into force on 1 May 2026. The rest of the Act will follow in 2 further stages. A full guide to the Act can be found on GOV.UK.
