Why Weight – Group Weight Management

Congratulations on taking the first step to a healthier you!

Sevenoaks District Council are working in partnership with Kent County Council’s Public Health Team to fund the delivery of our 12-week group weight management service, “Why Weight”. Our group weight management programme is an important part of our One You Lifestyle Improvement services delivered within Sevenoaks District.

“Why Weight” is for Sevenoaks District residents aged 18+ who have a BMI of 30+ (or 27.5+ for residents from BAME communities). You can check your BMI using the NHS BMI Calculator (support is available on a 1:1 basis if you want help to lose weight but are not eligible for the Why Weight programme)

The Why Weight programme is 12 weeks long and each week we provide information, skills, resources and access to exercise to support your weight loss journey. Our weekly information topics include:

  • Portion Control
  • Food Labelling
  • Meal Planning
  • Food Triggers
  • Setting SMART Goals

As a result of the progression of the coronavirus we have changed our service from face-to-face support to online groups through video call. We offer our time to clients free of charge.

We understand that making changes can be really difficult, particularly if you are struggling with lifestyle stress/distress, as part of our service we can also help you to; connect to your community, get housing or finance advice, get support for employment.
