A small number of homes, with no space for wheelie bins, use clear and black sacks for their recycling and waste.
Clear recycling sacks
You can put all these dry recycling items in clear sacks:
- Glass bottles and jars (please do not put too much glass in one sack - if you're recycling a lot of glass, please use multiple sacks)
- Paper and card
- Cardboard boxes and packaging
- Metal tins (including empty aerosols), cans, bottle tops, lids and foil
- Plastic bottles, tops, pots, tubs and trays
- Food and drink cartons (including Tetra Paks).
These households will receive two rolls of 30 Clear Recycling Sacks once a year. Please tell us if you have not received a delivery of Clear Sacks in the past year
If you've recently moved to the District, you can register for an initial supply of clear sacks to be delivered to your home.

Black sacks
You will need to provide your own waste sacks. Please ensure you only buy stong sacks made for household waste. We may not collect your waste if you use any other type of sack or bag.
Do not put any sharp objects in your sacks.
Black sacks are only for items that cannot be recycled. This includes:
- Nappies, sanitary products
- Tissues and wet wipes
- Pet waste and cat litter
- Plastic bags, wrapping and clear film
- Polystyrene, bubble wrap and foam packaging
- Crockery, ceramics and other types of glass, including window glass, perfume bottles, and Pyrex
- Dust, vacuum contents and sweeping waste
- Toothbrushes, plastic toys and non-recyclable plastics
- Fireplace, stove and BBQ ashes - these must be cold and bagged
Putting your waste out
Put your sacks out by 7am on your collection day.
Leave your sacks next to the road or your agreed collection point.
