Hextable Ward By-Election

A by-election has been called for the Hextable Ward of Sevenoaks District Council.

If the by-election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday 5 March 2026.

Electoral registration, postal and proxy votes

To vote in this by-election, residents of Hextable Ward must be registered to vote by no later than midnight on Tuesday 17 February 2026.  Applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

The deadline to applying for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 18 February 2026. Applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote

If you wish to cancel or amend an existing postal vote, or cancel or amend an existing proxy vote, the deadline for doing so is 5pm on Wednesday 18 February 2026.

Postal votes will be sent out from 20 February 2026.

New applications for a proxy vote (for someone else to vote on your behalf) must be completed by 5pm on Wednesday 25 February 2026. Some applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote

Nominations

For candidates wishing to stand in the by-election, nominations can be submitted to Reception Meeting Room 1, Sevenoaks District Council Offices, between 10am and 4pm from Friday 30 January to Friday 6 February (weekdays only).

Completed nominations must be submitted no later than 4pm on Friday 6 February.

Whilst appointments are not compulsory, it would be helpful to ensure that processing your nomination is not delayed.


Candidates and Agents Briefing

A short briefing will be held to provide further information about the by-election for nominated candidates and their appointed agents.

The Briefing will be held online at 6pm on Tuesday 10 February and joining instructions will be issued shortly after nominations have closed.


Election Notices

Notice of Election – 29 January 2026

If the election is contested:

The Statement of Persons Nominated will be published on Monday 9 February.

The Notice of Poll and Situation of Polling Stations will be published no later than Wednesday 25 February.
