If you find a lost dog, you can help reunite it with its owner.
- Check for ID. Look for a collar or tag with contact information. If possible, contact the owner.
- Secure the dog. Ensure the dog is safely contained for example in a garden, indoors or on a lead. We can only collect secured dogs.
- Contact us. Call 01732 227000 or email environmental.health@sevenoaks.gov.uk.
- Visit a vet for a free microchip scan. Most vets will try to contact the registered owner. Some may temporarily keep the dog, but if they ask you to hold on to it, we will aim to collect the dog as soon as possible during work hours. You must still report the dog to us, even if taken to a vet.
- Share on social media or via online neighbourhood groups. Include a clear photo and where and when the dog was found. Don’t include your phone number or personal contact details, instead communicate over social media. Don’t hand over the dog without proof of ownership. This could include a recent photo, microchip information, vet records or insurance details.
