Help with your energy bills

The Government's 'Help for Households' website has information about the latest schemes and support available to help with your energy bills.

Help for Households - help with your energy bills

Home appliance energy use

Some electrical household appliances use a lot of electricity while others don’t. The Centre for Sustainable Energy has published a guide showing the energy consumption rates for everyday household appliances.

Smart meters

Smart energy meters can also help manage your energy use. If you don’t have one already, contact your energy supplier to arrange an installation.

Help to insulate your home

As part of the Government’s Great British Insulation Scheme, households in lower Council Tax bands with less energy efficient homes may be entitled to upgrades such as roof, loft or cavity wall insulation which could cut their annual energy bill.

To be eligible, you must live in a property in Council Tax bands A to D with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below.

British Gas Energy Trust

British Gas Energy Trust may be able to provide a grant to those experiencing financial difficulties. It is an independent charitable body set up to support those who are struggling to pay their bills, regardless of energy provider.
