We are drafting a Private Sector Housing Grant Policy that will set out how we will use the Government’s Better Care Fund to support vulnerable and disabled residents who live in Private Sector property.
In broad terms, we use the Better Care Fund to:
- Provide a Disabled Facilities Grant service, in other words making home adaptations and health and safety improvements so residents with disabilities can remain in their own homes for a long as possible
- To bring more private sector empty homes back into use, especially those that could be used to prevent and relieve homelessness
We are currently running two surveys, one for residents who have used our Disabled Facilities Grant service, the other asking for public and partner views on our draft Private Sector Housing Grant Policy.
Both surveys will remain open until 5pm on Monday 15 December 2025.
A summary of the survey responses will be considered by our Councillors in April 2026 when they consider the new Private Sector Housing Grant Policy.
