Grant assistance may be available toward the cost of renovating, improving or adapting your home if you are disabled or an older person with mobility problems.
These grants provide essential adaptations to give disabled people a safer and accessible
home. Typically they fund:
- Stair lifts
- Replacing a bath with a flush floor shower commonly called a wet room
- Improving access into and around the home and garden.
Qualifying criteria apply, including an assessment by an occupational therapist to confirm that the adaptations are necessary.
Our Private Sector Housing Assistance Policy sets out our approach to the maintenance, repair, improvement and adaptation of properties in private ownership.
The policy states our position regarding access to financial assistance through housing grants and alternative funding (although some funding options require further investigation and development).
