Parking waivers and suspensions

Parking suspensions

Parking suspensions temporarily remove parking restrictions and prevents unauthorised vehicles from parking.

They are granted for roadworks, utility works, construction projects, house removals and skips.

They can be granted in roads with restrictions such as resident parking, limited waiting, or pay and display parking.

We may need to carry out a site visit and advertise the suspension so applications can take up to 10 working days.

  • The cost is £10 per day for each bay or six metre length of road (where bays are not individually marked)
  • A one-off £30 administration fee applies for each application or renewal.

When you apply, please provide:

  • The exact location
  • The length or number of bays
  • The purpose
  • Start and finish dates.

After we have received your application, we will contact you with the cost. You must make payment at least eight days before the suspension begins.

Once we have received payment, the suspension will be confirmed and we will put up the road signs.

If you are applying for parking suspension for a skip, you must also apply to Kent County Council for a skip license.

We can issue Penalty Charge Notices to unauthorised vehicles parked in suspended bays, but unauthorised vehicles cannot be removed.

On street and car park waivers

You can apply for a waiver if you have building works and your contractor needs somewhere to park.

  • An on-street waiver costs £6 per day, per vehicle
  • A car park waiver costs £10 per day, per vehicle.

Waivers are issued through a company called MiPermit. While your applications is awaiting authorisation, it may show as pending on the MiPermit website. We will not take payment until we have accepted the waiver.

Waivers are not usually issued for parking on yellow lines. Parking waivers do not guarantee a parking space.

Where possible, waivers should be purchased in advanced as some require approval before they can be issued.

Waivers required outside of our office hours, such as weekends and public holidays, should be applied for no later than 30 minutes before our offices close on the last working day.  View our working times.
