Council raises the flag for Armed Forces Day

Published: Tuesday, 11th June 2019

Armed Forces Day celebrations will begin in Sevenoaks with a traditional flag raising ceremony on Monday 24 June 2019.

The ceremony will begin at 10.20am outside Sevenoaks District Council’s offices on Argyle Road (TN13 1HG) with help from Westerham Sea Cadets and Sevenoaks Air Cadets. The flag will be raised at 10.30am. Residents can attend to show their support for our Armed Forces.

Council Chairman, Cllr John Edwards-Winser, says: “Armed Forces Day gives us all the chance to show our appreciation to the men and women who have protected this country. This year is especially important as we honour the brave young men who took part in the D-Day landings and the Normandy campaign 75 years ago.

“Together with our allies we paid a heavy price with the loss of thousands of young lives and many more injured, but the success of the campaign signalled the beginning of the end of Nazi Germany. Without a doubt, we owe our freedom to those young men.”

The flag raising on Monday 24 June is the start of this year’s Armed Forces Day that takes place on Saturday 29 June 2019.
