Calling all young basketball hopefuls!

Published: Friday, 5th April 2019

A new, after school basketball club will bounce into action from 29 April at Dunton Green Recreation Ground.

The District’s premier level local basketball club, the Sevenoaks Suns, are inviting 11 to 14 year olds to attend its term-time, after school basketball camp. The camp, which is open to both girls and boys, will be held at Ball Court Recreation Ground from 5 pm to 6 pm on a Monday nights, starting 29 April. There’s no need to book in advance and the sessions are just £2 a time.

Founded in 2005, the Sevenoaks Suns are run by volunteers who offer coaching to players ranging from five years old through to men and women. Their goal is to help young people develop into mature, confident and self-reliant individuals.

In the club's 13 years, they've built a tradition of excellence across all age groups. The girls programme have won 20 junior national league titles and the women's team have won back-to-back Woman’s British Basketball League Playoff Championships in 2017 and 2018. To date, 43 Sevenoaks Suns female players have represented England, 15 have represented Great Britain and 17 have received scholarships to continue their basketball careers and education in the United States.

Dimitris Kor, Development Coach from the Sevenoaks Suns, says “This is a great opportunity for local young people to participate in a fun and active sport. Basketball is great for team building and self-confidence; we’re really excited to meet the young people who join us”.
