Public Space Protection Order at The Vine to be extended

A successful Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that has reduced anti-social behaviour at The Vine in Sevenoaks is set to be extended for a further three years.

The Public Space Protection Order was originally introduced in December 2023 by Sevenoaks District Council and Sevenoaks Town Council following consultation with local residents about concerns in the area. These included noise complaints, vehicle nuisance and drunken and rowdy behaviour.

Since the introduction of the PSPO, there has been a dramatic reduction in anti-social behaviour, with no reports of rowdy or nuisance gatherings.

As the current Order is coming to an end in December this year, the Council asked residents in July 2026 whether they wanted the PSPO to be extended for a further three years. Of the 143 people who took part, 75% were in favour of keeping the PSPO in place.

Public Space Protection Orders give the Police and the Council the power to issue on-the-spot warnings or fixed penalty notices for anti-social behaviour.

They also prohibit behaviour that is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. This means that those causing trouble can be required to leave the area and may not return within 24 hours.

Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet Member for People and Places, Cllr Lesley Dyball, says:

“It’s reassuring that anti-social behaviour at the Vine has markedly reduced since the PSPO was put in place. It has been a great success, and we want to do everything possible to keep this area safe.”

“We know this is an important issue for local residents and our consultation showed that most people support extending the PSPO.”

The Public Space Protection Order extension on The Vine was approved by Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet on 22 September 2026. The order will be extended from 1 December 2026 and can last for up to three years.

At the same Cabinet meeting, Councillors also agreed to consult with residents about extending another PSPO on London Road, Halstead, which was put in place in March 2024 to deter car meets, racing and general motor vehicle nuisance. The consultation will take place in October 2026.
