Wheelie bin roadshows come to town!

Sevenoaks District Council is hosting three information roadshows this month to help residents prepare for their new wheelie bin waste collection service, which begins in the autumn.

Staff will be on hand at the roadshows to answer questions and explain what can be recycled. Residents can also pick up a free roll of food waste caddy liners (subject to availability).

The roadshows are taking place at:

Edenbridge - outside Waitrose
Saturday 19 September 2026, 10am to 2pm

Swanley Market - by the southern entrance to Asda
Wednesday 23 September 2026, 10am to 2pm

Sevenoaks - Blighs Clock Tower
Saturday 26 September 2026, 10am to 2pm

Cllr Irene Roy, the Council's Cabinet Member for Cleaner and Greener, says: "We are very excited to be introducing new wheelie bin collections. Other areas that use these bins have seen their recycling rates increase significantly, with residents generally welcoming the convenience and ease of this collection system.

"Ahead of the new service beginning, we're running three roadshow events where residents can find out more about wheelie bin collections, get advice on recycling and reducing waste, and have the opportunity to ask the team questions.

"We ran similar events before introducing food waste collections earlier this year. They were well attended and well received, so we're looking forward to meeting residents again this September and helping them prepare for the new service."

New wheelie bin collections will begin on 12 October 2026. From this date, the Council will also introduce alternate-weekly collections, with general waste collected one week and recycling the next.

The Council is currently delivering wheelie bins to most households and will continue to do so until early October. Households will receive a 240-litre wheelie bin with a green lid for recycling and a 180-litre black wheelie bin for general waste.

As part of the changes, the Council will also collect glass from residents' homes for the first time, using the new recycling bin.

Food waste will continue to be collected separately every week in the small orange and black food waste bin.
