Today, Wednesday 9 September 2026, at 9am, Sevenoaks District Council Chairman, Cllr Margot McArthur, raised a flag for Emergency Services Day (also known as 999 Day).
Emergency Services Day honours the two million heroic men and women of the NHS, Police, Fire Service and other emergency responders while promoting the responsible use of the 999 service.
The day also aims to inform the public about basic lifesaving skills and the many career and volunteering opportunities available.
Following the raising of the flag, there was a two-minute silence to remember the members of the emergency services who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Sevenoaks District Council Chairman, Margot McArthur, says: “Our blue light responders, NHS workers and emergency volunteers do an amazing job keeping us safe, day in and day out, putting themselves in harm’s way to help others. Today was an opportunity to say ‘thank you' for all their work.”
The Chairman was joined by representatives from Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, The Deputy Lieutenant of Kent, Lord Colgrain, Father Stephen Mitchell, Cllr Victoria Granville, Mayor of Sevenoaks Town Council, Councillors and staff.
