Published: Tuesday, 9th September 2025

Today, Tuesday 9 September 2025, at 9am, Sevenoaks District Council’s Chairman, Cllr Lynda Harrison, raised a flag for Emergency Services Day (also known as 999 Day).

Emergency Services Day honours the two million heroic men and women of the NHS, Police, Fire Service and other emergency responders while promoting the responsible use of the 999 service.

The day also aims to inform the public about basic lifesaving skills and the many career and volunteering opportunities available.

Following the raising of the flag, there was a two minutes’ silence to remember the members of the emergency services killed in the line of duty.

District Council Chairman, Lynda Harrison, says: “Our blue light responder, NHS workers and emergency volunteers keep us safe day in and day out, putting themselves in harm’s way to help others. Today was an opportunity to thank them for all their amazing work.”

The Chairman was joined by representatives from Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, South East Coast Ambulance Service, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Lord Sackville, Reverend Anne Bourne, Cllr Tony Clayton, Mayor of Sevenoaks Town Council, Councillors and staff.
