Cllr, Lynda Harrison, the Chairman of Sevenoaks District Council, helped to raise the Red Ensign above the Council offices in honour of the British Merchant Navy.
The flag raising took place on Merchant Navy Day, Wednesday 3 September 2025.
The Chairman was joined by Sea Cadets Sevenoaks, Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Lord Colgrain, Cllr Larry Abraham’s, the Council’s Armed Forces Champion, Reverend Anne Bourne, Cllr Tony Clayton, Mayor of Sevenoaks Town Council, and other guests.
Cllr Harrison says: “It was a great honour to raise the red ensign for the Merchant Navy.
“It’s important to remember the brave men and women who have served our nation in the past and who continue to do so in today’s Merchant Navy.
“Their work has often been unrecognised, especially during the Second World War so it was a privilege to lead the flag raising ceremony."
