Sevenoaks District Council is looking for volunteers to help restore the Greensands Commons.
Volunteering is a hugely rewarding and sociable experience that teaches new skills and can help with physical fitness.
Over the last few years, the Council has been working with Kent Wildlife and local volunteers to restore the natural heritage of The Greensand Commons, which includes Bitchet Common, Fawke Common, Seal Chart and Redhill Wood, Hosey Common, Farley Common and Crockham Hill Common.
As well as being in a National Landscape (previously called an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), the Commons are known for their areas of ancient woodland and open heathland.
To ensure the Commons are maintained, volunteers are needed to help restore important heathland and wood pasture.
The volunteer task days vary but usually revolve around enhancing biodiversity and controlling invasive species across all the Commons.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleaner and Greener, Cllr Irene Roy says: “Restoring the commons is such an important cause and we have lots of great conservation opportunities for residents to get involved in.
“The work can be quite physical but very rewarding and it is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors and give back to the community.”
