Sevenoaks District Council is considering transferring or selling 11 small parcels of land for the wider community benefit.
The Council is required by the Government to review its property holding so it does not retain land that is no longer needed.
Several sites have been identified as surplus to the Council’s requirements. These are being considered for transfer or put up for sale.
Four to five open spaces in Halstead, Cowden, Otford and Fawkham could be transferred or sold to the local parish council. The transfers would include legal agreements to protect the land from future development.
Sites in Halstead and Fawkham could be sold to housing associations or on the open market to provide new housing. Up to five small sites in Hartley, that may be suitable for private housing, could be sold at auction. Any new homes would be subject to gaining planning approval.
The income from all the sites would be invested in the Council’s capital programme that will benefit the wider community.
Cllr Kevin Maskell, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance & Investments, says: “Should we agree to dispose of or to sell these sites, we will be freeing up land for much needed affordable and private housing while continuing to protect some much-cherished open spaces.
“The money generated from the sales will be invested to improve our residents’ access to much needed housing, leisure facilities and employment through our Capital Projects programme.”
The land transfers and sales will be considered by the Council’s Finance and Investment Advisory Committee on 10 June then Cabinet on 15 July 2025.
