Westerham Sea Cadets, the Deputy Lieutenant of Kent, Lennox Cato, and local veterans joined the Council Chairman, Cllr Diana Esler, to celebrate Commonwealth Day (Monday 14 April 2022).

The day is an international celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations marked by a multi-faith service at Westminster Abbey in London.

Hosted outside Sevenoaks District Council’s offices, the Commonwealth flag was raised at 10am by the Westerham Sea Cadets with prayers led by Reverend Anne Bourne.

Sevenoaks District Council Chairman, Diana Esler, says: “Commonwealth Day is about celebrating the unity and inclusivity of the Commonwealth and I was delighted to be part of a global event that is taking place across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe. During these troubling and uncertain times, it gives us the chance to appreciate all the good things the Commonwealth stands for.”

“This was Lennox Cato’s first official duty as a Kent Deputy Lieutenant and I cannot think of a more fitting event to begin his time in the role.”
