Know your risk!

Sevenoaks District Council is supporting Diabetes Week by heading to the streets of Edenbridge, Sevenoaks and Swanley to give residents free diabetes risk tests.

The Council’s One You van will be touring the District throughout the week to encourage residents to check if they are at risk of developing diabetes and what they can do to prevent it.

Type 2 diabetes can come on slowly and is more likely to affect people over the age of 40 who are carrying extra weight, especially around their middle. Other factors in developing diabetes include having high blood pressure, a sedentary lifestyle, drinking excessive alcohol or smoking.

Cllr Kevin Maskell, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Health says: “Type two diabetes is very preventable and our One You team have all the tools you need to help lower your risk of developing it. This includes weight loss programmes, advice on moving more and quitting smoking.

“We’re encouraging residents to come and see the One You team next week for a COVID secure risk check. The check involves measuring your waist and then filling out a simple lifestyle questionnaire. Our team will then be able to determine if you are at risk and give you advice on what to do next.”

The One You van will be in the following locations:

Tuesday 15 June 1:30pm-5pm - Bligh’s Car Park, Sevenoaks

Wednesday 16 June 8.30am-12pm - Edenbridge Leisure Centre

Friday 18 June 9am-1pm – Asda Walk, Swanley - CANCELLED DUE TO FORCAST HEAVY RAIN
