Local landlords invited to virtual support event

Published: Friday, 7th May 2021

Landlords, prospective landlords and letting agents are invited to join the Council’s first virtual Landlord and Letting Agents event.

The free event takes place from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday 26 May 2021.

Landlords can hear about the support available from the Council, including signing up suitable tenants, grants to renovate and maintain property and the latest information on shared housing and changes in the law.

There will be an opportunity to hear from a landlord who has benefitted from working closely with the Council and the chance to network. There will also be a chance to meet Rebecca Wilcox, the Council’s Head of Housing and Accommodation Services.

The event will be chaired by the Council’s Cabinet Member for housing, Cllr Kevin Maskell, who says:

“This event, a first for us, will cover the latest changes in the rented housing industry and how we can support landlords.

“We understand landlords are operating a business. A buy to let property can be a great investment, but we never underestimate the amount of work involved in becoming a landlord. We recognise that finding the right tenant for a property can be a complicated and uncertain process. We also understand the concerns around increasing legislative burdens, rent payments or anti-social behaviour. That is why we have developed a careful and considered support package, which takes the worry out of letting a property.”

Notes to editors

The Council offers a number of services to support landlords, including:

  • Accredited landlords’ scheme
  • Advice service on improvement standards and safety guidelines, such as fire safety advice
  • Rent deposit bond and inspections scheme
  • Immigration inspection service
  • Information about shared houses and licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation
