Sevenoaks Greensands Commons Project

Over the last few years, we have been working with Kent Wildlife and local volunteers to restore the Greensand Commons, which includes Bitchet Common, Fawke Common, Seal Chart and Redhill Wood, Hosey Common, Farley Common and Crockham Hill Common.

As well as being a National Landscape (previously called Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty), the Commons are known for their areas of ancient woodland and open heathland.

Volunteering

We have lots of great volunteer conservation opportunities to help restore this important heathland and wood pasture.

The volunteer task days vary but usually involve enhancing biodiversity and controlling invasive species. The work can be physical but very rewarding.

Tools and gloves will be provided. Please bring food and drink and dress for the weather.

If you’d like to spend more time in nature and give back to your community, email countryside@sevenoaks.gov.uk to find out more.
