This year marks 80 years since VE Day, when World War II officially ended in Europe.
To honour this special occasion, Sevenoaks District Council is putting on several free events between 5 and 9 May 2025 for residents to attend.
Free events include a sing-along in Sevenoaks Town Centre on 5 May, a wartime themed tea dance for older residents in Edenbridge on 8 May and two, 1940s themed cooking classes in Sevenoaks on 6 May and Swanley on 7 May.
The events conclude on Friday 9 May at St Clere’s Estate in Kemsing, with a very special free outdoor concert and traditional afternoon tea. This nostalgic celebration will honour the spirit of victory, remembrance and community and participants are encouraged to bring their flags and dress in vintage attire.
Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet Member for People and Places, Cllr Lesley Dyball says:
“We’re really excited to be putting on these free events to commemorate this momentous occasion and remember all those who fought for our freedom in World War II.
“The event at St Clere’s Estate promises to be the highlight of the week, with live music from the West Kent Concert Band, as well as songs from D'Vine Singers, Sounds Familiar and Nouveau Lounge.
“We expect these events to be very popular, so make sure you book your place early.
“What’s more, many Town and Parish Councils are also putting on their own events so check their websites to see what’s happening near you."
