On Monday 19 June 2023, pupils from St John’s School, the Westerham Sea Cadets and veterans joined Cllr Laurence Ball, the Council’s Vice Chairman, for this year’s event marking Armed Forces Day.
The event held at Sevenoaks District Council’s offices included readings and prayers from the Reverend Anne Bourne thanking the nation’s serving troops, service families and veterans before the Westerham Sea Cadets raised the Armed Forces Flag 10.30am.
Other guests included Lord Colgrain, the deputy Lord Lieutenant of Kent and District Councillors and staff.
The Council Vice Chairman, Cllr Laurence Ball, says: “Armed Forces Day gives us the chance to show our appreciation for the dedicated men and women who have and continue to sacrifice so much to keep every one of us safe.
“I want to say a big thank you to our local veterans and the young people who came out and supported this year’s event.”
The flag raising was the start of this year’s Armed Forces Day that takes place on Saturday 24 June 2023.
