Council marks the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukrainian

Published: Friday, 24th February 2023

Today marks the first year anniversary of the full-scale illegal invasion of Ukraine.

To reaffirm Sevenoaks District Council’s unwavering support for the people of Ukraine, it participated in the national moment of silence at 11am and flew the Ukrainian flag at full mast outside its offices.

Cllr Lesley Dyball, the Council’s Cabinet Member for People and Places, says: “With millions of Ukrainians being forced from their homes, the people of Sevenoaks District have shown their incredible generosity by opening their homes, donating money and much needed goods and support. I would like to thank everyone who has opened their homes and their hearts to help the people of Ukraine over the past year.”

To date, the Sevenoaks District has welcomed 426 Ukrainians under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme. However, to make it possible for Ukrainian guests to build a new life and live safely, more homes and sponsors are needed.

Landlords and homeowners who could offer a property or a spare room, should contact the Council at homesforukraine@sevenoaks.gov.uk or visit its website www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/ukraine for further details.
