Today (Monday 22 June 2026), representatives from the Sevenoaks Sea Cadets and the Kent Army Cadets joined Cllr Penny Cole, the Council's Vice-Chairman, to mark this year’s Armed Forces Day.
The event, outside Sevenoaks District Council’s offices, included readings and prayers from Reverend Anne Bourne thanking the nation’s serving troops, service families and veterans before Sevenoaks Sea Cadets raised the Armed Forces Flag at 10.30am.
Other guests included Lord Sackville, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Major Alex Hill, Area Commander C Battery Kent Army Cadets Force, civic dignitaries, military veterans and District Councillors and staff.
The Council's Vice-Chairman, Cllr Penny Cole, says: “Our Armed Forces do an amazing job keeping the nation and others safe in a fast changing and increasingly challenging world.
“Today gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation for the men and women who have and continue to make sacrifices for our benefit.
“I want to thank the sea cadets and others who came out in support of this year’s flag raising event.”
The flag raising was the start of this year’s Armed Forces Day that takes place on Saturday 29 June 2026.
