This year’s Silver Sunday boasts dozens of local events for older people, most of which are free.
Silver Sunday was originally set up to tackle loneliness, but in recent years it has become a national campaign to celebrate the contribution of older people while encouraging social activity.
Promoted locally by Sevenoaks District Council, and running from September to December, residents can sign up to a variety of activities and events.
This year, there are free Tai Chi classes, tea dances, coffee mornings, talks, volunteer opportunities and a Christmas party!
There are other regular events that the Council is promoting such as AGE UK’s ‘Pop Up Sue’ exercise classes, Steps to Wellbeing social walks, games clubs and many more.
The Council's Cabinet Member for People and Places, Cllr Lesley Dyball, says:
“Silver Sunday is a really positive way to celebrate older people whilst encouraging them to learn new skills and meet others.
“As always, we’re not just celebrating for one day, we have over three months’ worth of free or low cost activities for older people to try. There’s something for all abilities and interests!
“If you have an elderly relative or friend who would enjoy more social interaction, encourage them to come along to a Silver Sunday event.”
