The Draft Local Plan consultation has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part.
The Plan addresses the Government’s requirement to provide up to 14,000 new homes by 2035 and asked for views on the development sites put forward by landowners and developers for new houses and sports, health, education and other facilities.
We received a large number of comments during the consultation and we are working as quickly as possible to process them. All comments received by 5pm on Monday 10 September will be included and everyone who submitted a comment will receive an acknowledgement and a comment reference number in due course.
What happens next?
Our Planning Policy Team are carefully considering and analysing every comment. The draft Local Plan, taking account of residents and stakeholders’ comments, will be considered by our Councillors in November and December. We aim to publish the final version by the end of this year.
This version will be submitted to the Government’s Planning Inspector in spring 2019 for final decision on the Plan. They will hold a public examination in 2019 to make sure the Plan has been produced according to the law, everyone’s views have been properly considered and we’ve investigated all other options before allowing any ‘Exceptional circumstances’ Green Belt sites to be developed.
There will be a final six-week consultation known as ‘Regulation 19 Publication’ and any comments received will be sent directly to the Planning Inspector. You can also ask to speak at the examination. Details of how to do this will be posted on this website closer to the examination.
If approved by the Planning Inspector, the Plan could be adopted by us in late 2019 then used to help determine planning applications.
