Making Space for Sevenoaks - Buckhurst 2 car park proposals

Sevenoaks is a great place to live and work but a lack of long stay parking is impacting on residents and businesses. To meet an urgent need for additional long stay parking, we are building a new car park on Buckhurst Lane.

Buckhurst 2 car park closed in January 2018 to enable us to build the new car park. The car park is expected to reopen in spring 2019.

High Street and Suffolk Way junction and traffic signal improvements (21 September 2018)

The improvements to the crossroads between Sevenoaks High Street, Suffolk Way and Pembroke Road are set for a delay as we and UK Power Networks work together to co-ordinate improvement works.

We are funding the current junction improvements, which are being carried out by Kent County Council contractors.

UK Power Networks are now tying in their works with us to reduce disruption, with the company expected start work on the site on 8 October with an early autumn finish date scheduled.

Joining up with UK Power Networks will delay the completion of the junction back but will eliminate the need to return for further works at a later date.

The current work to the junction forms part of the planning permission for the new Buckhurst 2 car park, and sees a new pedestrian island, upgraded traffic signals and realigning and widening the road to help improve traffic flow.

The improvements will also introduce Puffin Crossing which are pedestrian-friendly, intelligent signals that help improve traffic flow and are now commonplace across Kent.

Alternative car parking for Buckhurst 2 customers

Existing Buckhurst 2 customers, who have registered with us,  have been offered alternative parking in and around Sevenoaks town.

We are also providing a free, 100 space car park in Morewood Close, next to Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court, which is a 20 minute walk from the town centre or a few minutes by bus.

We are working with local company Go Coach to provide a shuttle bus service between the Morewood Close car park and Blighs in the town centre from Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 9.30am and 4pm and 6pm. The service will run frequently, depending on the number of passengers.

There is a £1 contribution towards the fare for each journey.

Scheduled bus services running throughout the day also operate from the bus stops in London Road (by the junction with Morewood Close) and opposite Sevenoaks rail station. Please refer to the Go Coach and Arriva websites for times and prices.
