Making Space for Sevenoaks - Buckhurst 2 car park proposals

Sevenoaks is a great place to live and work but a lack of long stay parking is impacting on residents and businesses. To meet an urgent need for additional long stay parking, we are building a new car park on Buckhurst Lane.

Buckhurst 2 car park closed in January 2018 to enable us to build the new car park. The car park is expected to reopen in spring 2019.

High Street and Suffolk Way junction and traffic signal improvements

From Monday 16 July 2018, Kent County Council will be starting improvement works at the junction of the High Street, Suffolk Way and Pembroke Road. The works form part of the planning permission for the new Buckhurst 2 car park.

The works include a new pedestrian island on Suffolk Way, realigning and widening the road and upgrading the traffic signals to a Puffin Crossing to improve traffic flow.

Puffin Crossings are pedestrian-friendly, intelligent signals that help improve traffic flow and are now commonplace in newly installed signal junctions across Kent.

They include pedestrian detection equipment, which can reduce the red lights for vehicles if pedestrians cross quickly or if a pedestrian walks away or crosses on the 'red man'. If a pedestrian crosses slowly, the signals will detect this and will allow the full time so they can safely cross the road.

The improvements should take about 10 weeks and are scheduled to finish by Monday 24 September 2018.

We understand that any work to such an important junction will cause a degree of disruption and inconvenience, so we are working closely with Kent County Council and the contractor to keep this to a minimum and make sure the works are carried out in a timely manner.

If you have any questions or concerns during the works, please contact Kent County Council Highways.

Alternative car parking for Buckhurst 2 customers

Existing Buckhurst 2 customers, who have registered with us,  have been offered alternative parking in and around Sevenoaks town.

We are also providing a free, 100 space car park in Morewood Close, next to Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court, which is a 20 minute walk from the town centre or a few minutes by bus.

We are working with local company Go Coach to provide a shuttle bus service between the Morewood Close car park and Blighs in the town centre from Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 9.30am and 4pm and 6pm. The service will run frequently, depending on the number of passengers.

There is a £1 contribution towards the fare for each journey.

Scheduled bus services running throughout the day also operate from the bus stops in London Road (by the junction with Morewood Close) and opposite Sevenoaks rail station. Please refer to the Go Coach and Arriva websites for times and prices.
