Government support schemes
The Government is delivering a range of measures to support businesses through the period of disruption caused by Coronavirus.
Additional local business grant fund scheme
On 13 May the Government published guidance for an additional fund to support certain small businesses previously outside of the scope of other Covid-19 business grant fund schemes.
The funding available is limited. Because of this, and in line with Government guidance, the additional fund will be prioritised for businesses that meet the national criteria and other eligibility requirements within the scheme guidance.
The national criteria are:
- Small businesses in shared offices or other flexible workspaces. Examples could include units in industrial parks, science parks and incubators which do not have their own business rates assessment;
- Regular market traders with fixed building costs, such as rent, who do not have their own business rates assessment;
- Bed & Breakfasts which pay Council Tax instead of business rates; and
- Charity properties in receipt of charitable business rates relief which would otherwise have been eligible for Small Business Rates Relief or Rural Rate Relief.
Our initial assessment indicates that the additional fund is likely to be over-subscribed within this priority group of businesses and further discretionary funding is unlikely to be available.
Details of our local scheme and the application form for eligible businesses to apply will be published on this page as soon as they are available.
We expect to begin making grant payments under the scheme in June.
Business rates holiday and grant funding
We are responsible for administering the business rate holiday and grant funding for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses and the small business grant funding for all business in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief.
Eligibility for the business support may be subject to certain Government criteria.
We passed on the money to eligible businesses during April.
Operating as a hot food takeaway
To support communities through the Coronavirus outbreak, the Government is allowing restaurants, cafes and pubs which do not currently offer delivery and hot food takeaway to do so.
