HM The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

On 6 February this year, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service.

To mark this momentous occasion, celebrations will take place throughout the year to create a lasting reminder of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This includes a year-long Queen's Green Canopy initiative (see below) and a four day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June 2022.

To help with your planning, the national Platinum Jubilee team has produced a Pageant Pack. It’s full of ideas on what types of events or activities you could organise, a handy checklist to help you think of everything and even some suggestions on how to ensure your event can have a lasting impact.

HRH The Duchess of Cornwall has also launched the Platinum Champions Awards to recognise 'those truly special people who make a difference'. There are seven categories and the awards are open to people of all ages. Find out how to nominate your Platinum Champion.

Getting involved

There are many ways you can get support in Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations including:

  • Enjoying a local community street party or event
  • Watching or taking part in a beacon lighting ceremony on the evening of Thursday 2 June
  • Planting a tree as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy

To support local communities in celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, all parishes and neighbourhood councils have each been offered grant finding to support their own Jubilee-themed events.

If you are planning an event, whether a public or a private street party, we would encourage you to register your event on the national map so your communities can see them.

Holding a public event or festival

Please contact the landowner in the first instance if you wish to hold an event on their land. You will also need to apply to hold an event.

If you are thinking of organising a larger public event, such as a parade or festival on a public road, you will also need to:

  • Apply for a temporary road closure from Kent County Council
  • If you wish to serve alcohol or have another licensable activity such as paid for music and entertainment, you may need to applyy for a Temporary Event Notice.
  • You may also require a street trading licence or a charitable collections license. For further information, please contact our Licensing team at or by calling 01732 227004.

The Queen's Green Canopy

The Queen’s Green Canopy is a nationwide sustainable tree planting project. It has been created to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 with the aim of creating a legacy which will benefit generations to come.

Platinum Jubilee Beacons

Building on a long tradition of lighting beacons to mark significant royal celebrations, over 1,500 Platinum Jubilee Beacons will be lit across the UK and Commonwealth on the first evening of the four-day Jubilee Weekend (on Thursday 2 June 2022). This will be a moment of remarkable celebration as we join together across different generations, denominations, faiths and communities all over the world in proper tribute to Her Majesty The Queen.
