Town twinning

A number of towns and villages in Sevenoaks District are twinned with similar towns and villages in mainland Europe. The idea behind twinning is to allow local residents to meet people from different nationalities to exchange ideas, to establish friendship and co-operate in solving common problems.

Local examples include Edenbridge, which is twinned with Mont-St-Aignan in FranceSevenoaks which is twinned with Pontoise in France and Rheinbach in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany and Swanley which is twinned with Verrieres-le-Buisson in France.

In most cases the local people have formed a twinning association that is responsible for town twinning. For contact details of local twinning associations, contact Sevenoaks District's local town and parish councils.

For more information, see the town twinning pages in the Europen Commission website, the town twinning pages on the Local Government Internation Bureau website.
