Getting involved and helpful information

Getting Involved
Community Safety is all about agencies and people working together to address crime, fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.  If you are interested in getting involved, below are a list of useful numbers

Neighbourhood Watch

There are many Neighbourhood Watch schemes operating throughout the District. To find out about your local scheme, or if you would to like to start one in your road call:

West Kent Police 01892 502159.

Special Constables
Kent Police would like to hear from if you are aged between 18-and-a-half and 50 and interested in becoming a Special Police Constable. You can find out more information by calling 0500 787700 or by emailing specials.recruitment@kent.pnn.police.uk.

Youth Offending Panels
Most 10 to 17-year-olds pleading guilty on a first time conviction are referred to a Youth Offender Panel (YOP) who consider the best course of action.   Youth Offender Panels consist of volunteers recruited from the local community, and a member of the Youth Offending Service. Working together with the young person, Youth Offending Panels write tailor-made contracts aimed at helping put things right.

Have you been a victim of crime?

Victim Support Kent helps Kent residents cope with the effects of crime, providing confidential support and information to victims of crime and to witnesses attending local courts. Services are free, independent of the police and courts, and available to everyone, whether or not the crime has been reported and regardless of when it happened.

West Kent Mediation
Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution, which has found to be successful in resolving a wide variety of disputes.  It is a way of dealing with disputes that aims to enable the people involved to reach an agreement that satisfies everyone.  Mediation avoids the expense of obtaining legal advice or going to court.
