CCTV

CCTV has been proven to assist in detecting and reducing the levels of crime, resulting in people feeling safer when they're out and about in our District.

Our CCTV team work closely with Kent Police and our other Community Safety partners with this objective.

We monitor and record images from the CCTV cameras at the Council's CCTV Control Centre. Where suspicious incidents are observed Kent Police are informed and responding police officers can be directed to the exact location by CCTV operators.

Requests for information

Any request by an individual for disclosure of information, which is believed to be recorded by Sevenoaks CCTV system must be in writing and will be directed to Sevenoaks District Council Legal Services team. Written requests can be posted to CCTV Manager, Council Offices, Argyle Road, Sevenoaks TN13 1HG or by e-mail to direct.services@sevenoaks.gov.uk.

Individuals will be asked to give information that will help the Council to confirm their identity. The Council has a duty to ensure that the information it holds is secure and it must be satisfied that individuals are who they say they are. A fee may be payable for each access request.

Recordings will be reviewed by Sevenoaks District Council CCTV Control Room staff and information will only be given if Sevenoaks District Council is satisfied as to the individual's identity.

The individual requesting the information must provide sufficient detail for the information to be located within the recording. If release of the recording will disclose information relating to another individual(s), who can be identified from that information, the Council is not obliged to comply with the request without consent to disclose from the individual(s) concerned.

Sevenoaks District Council may deny access to information on the CCTV system where the information is held for the prevention and detection of crime and the apprehension and prosecution of offenders and release may be likely to prejudice any of these purposes.
