Sevenoaks District Council provides a range of important local services to some 113,000 people across a wide area of west Kent.
The Council employs more than 430 staff organised into three departments.
The Community and Planning Services department covers Environmental Health, Community Safety and Community Development, refuse collection, street cleansing, fleet and vehicle maintenance, construction services and other related activities.
The Community and Planning Services department is also responsible for planning (building and development control) and planning policy (including developing the Local Development Framework), as well as tourism and environmental issues, including the management of the local countryside, transportation and housing. Although the Council transferred its housing stock to the West Kent Housing Association in 1989, it retains a responsibility for strategic housing matters and has an important role in ensuring the provision of rented accommodation within the District.
The Council's Leisure services were transferred to Sencio Community Leisure, a leisure trust in 2004. However, the Council still owns and maintains the leisure sites.
Services to the public are supported by internal functions including audit, communications, finance, IT and personnel in the Chief Executive's and the Corporate Services departments.
For further information see the Council's structure.
