New scheme grants your wishes

News release issued on 27 July 2011

A new scheme which will make up to £120,000 available for local projects is being launched by the Council. Local Councillors will be able to bid for funds on behalf of local people, groups, and parishes to help them make improvements to their community.

The scheme is called the 'Big Community Fund.’

Applications will be made via local District Councillors who can help with the project.

Grants worth up to £3,000 per application are available up to a maximum of £10,000 a month to help with improvements to their community.

Groups with ideas for the Big Community Fund can find out how to contact their local District Councillor by visiting www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/councillors or calling the Council on 01732 227000. District Councillors’ contact details are also printed in this summer edition of In Shape, which was recently delivered to homes.

Cllr Peter Fleming, the Leader of the Council says: “This is an exciting opportunity for local Councillors and their communities to help make tangible improvements to lives of local people. I hope these grants will have a positive, long-lasting legacy.”

A panel of District Councillors will evaluate each application. They will take into account the extent to which the application meets the scheme aims, value for money, how local people have been involved in shaping the proposal and local need. Applications will also need to demonstrate long-term sustainability.

Local District Councillors will be submitting their first round of applications by 5 September 2011, with the first being evaluated later in the month.
