'Tree-cycle' with the Council after Christmas

News release issued on 23 December 2011

After this year’s festivities have ended, Sevenoaks District Council can collect residents' real Christmas trees for free throughout January so they can be composted.

The Council will collect trees with a trunk up to 89mm (3.5”) in diameter.

Trees should be placed by the boundary of residents' property, where they'd put their refuse and recycling, the night before the Council’s Garden Waste Collection service takes place in their road. To find out when the service visits a particular road, call the Council on 01732 227000 or e-mail information@sevenoaks.gov.uk.

Please be aware that the Council cannot collect trees that are decorated or in pots or stands. If the tree’s trunk is greater than 89mm, it can be recycled at one of Kent County Council’s Household Waste Recycling sites. Call KCC on 08458 247 247 for locations and opening times.

Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet Member for recycling, says: "Our recycling scheme is the no-hassle way of disposing of a Christmas tree. Not only is it convenient and free, the trees will be turned into environmentally friendly compost."
