Sevenoaks District Community Partnership are co-ordinating a week of activities to highlight the dangers of excessive alcohol. The Government run initiative looks at how too much alcohol can harm adults and young people within the community. The week also highlights the services that are available.
Alcohol Awareness Week runs from 18 to 23 October and aims to raise awareness that by making positive lifestyle changes, including changing drinking habits and drinking more responsibly, residents can get more out of their day, week and weekend.
The week-long initiative will highlight the benefits of sticking to sensible drinking guidelines of not regularly drinking more than three to four units per day for men and two to three per day for women. It will also highlight the services that are available to all young and older people who feel their drinking levels are a concern.
A programme of events and initiatives designed to promote responsible drinking will take place throughout the District during the week.
Cllr Pat Bosley, Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for healthy living, says: "Alcohol Awareness Week gives people an ideal opportunity to find out more about the benefits of sensible drinking and reassess their own drinking habits. It will also help people understand how drinking can affect their children and help them keep track of how many units they're drinking."
Sevenoaks District Council’s Licensing team is working in partnership with Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Kenward Trust and Play Place Innovat 8, to bring residents a comprehensive week of activities which have be co-ordinated to address alcohol concerns and services that are available.
