The commitment and achievement of young volunteers from across the District will be recognised at an awards ceremony later this month.
Sevenoaks District Council’s Young Volunteer of the Year 2010 and two runners up will be named at a presentation hosted by the Council Chairman, Cllr John Lankester, at the Council's Sevenoaks offices on Monday 22 March 2010 from 6pm.
The shortlist of 13 young people from Crockenhill, Edenbridge, Hextable, Sevenoaks, Swanley and West Kingsdown will be present at the awards.
The winner of the Young Volunteer of the Year will receive £100 in high street vouchers, with another £200 going to the nominating organisation. Two runners up will each receive £50 in high street vouchers, and a further £100 going to their nominating organisation.
All nominated young people will be presented with a certificate on the evening.
The awards, now in their fourth year, aim to raise the profile of young volunteers aged 14 to 18 who have shown commitment and achievement, good leadership, innovation and creativity when helping others.
The public were invited to nominate young people for the award throughout December, January and February.
Cllr Pat Bosley, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for young people's issues, says: "Many young people give up much of their own time to help others, and this award scheme is about recognising the difference they make by doing so. Again, the quality of nominees was very high, and I am sure it will be a special evening for all concerned."
