Residents from Ash, New Ash Green and the surrounding area are being asked for their views on a proposed name change for their local District Council ward.
Sevenoaks District Councillors are elected for areas called wards, and at the last review of ward boundaries, which took effect in 2003, a new ‘Ash’ ward was created. It includes the communities of Ash and New Ash Green and is represented by three District Councillors.
One of the local Councillors has suggested a change of name for the ward to ‘Ash & New Ash Green’ to more accurately identify the ward and to recognise the significant population of New Ash Green.
This suggestion has the backing of the other Ash Councillors, Ash-cum-Ridley Parish Council, New Ash Green Village Association and the three main political parties. Now the District Council wants to hear the views of local residents.
Local people can say whether or not they agree with the suggested name change by writing to: Ian Bigwood, Electoral Services Manager, Sevenoaks District Council, Argyle Road, Sevenoaks TN13 1HG or e-mail elreg@sevenoaks.gov.uk.
The deadline for comments is 30 June 2010. The District Council will consider all comments before it reaches a final decision. If a change is made, it will come into effect at the District Council elections in May 2011.
