Residents have the chance to see some of the District's top attractions for free as part of this year's British Tourism Week.
British Tourism Week takes place from 15 to 21 March 2010. In Sevenoaks District, tourism is believed to be worth nearly £200 million to the local economy, provides in excess of 3,000 jobs and is the District's biggest industry.
As part of the week, residents can visit National Trust attractions for free on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 March. Locally these are Knole House, Chartwell, Quebec House and Emmetts Gardens.
Free entry is available by presenting a voucher on entry which can be downloaded and printed from the National Trust website at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/bonus. Full terms and conditions can be found on the National Trust website.
Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member for tourism, Cllr Pat Bosley, will be kicking off the week by paying a visit to Penshurst Place on Monday 15 March at 10am to join local schoolchildren in a re-enactment as pupils prepare to ward off invasion by the Spanish Armada.
The Eden Valley Museum in Edenbridge, one of ten museums in Kent displaying an object from the History of the World project, will be supporting British Tourism Week. On Thursday 18 March Cllr Mrs Terri Scanes, Chairman of Edenbridge Town Council, will be a 'work experience' person during the day, trying her hand as a museum steward at Eden Valley Museum.
Cllr Pat Bosley Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for tourism, says: "Sevenoaks District is home to a wonderful range of quality attractions, which are open to residents and visitors and host a range of events and activities throughout much of the year. Residents can take advantage of this brilliant free offer and make the most of our world class tourist attractions."
British Tourism Week is organised by VisitBritain with the support of the Tourism Society, the UK’s regional and national tourist boards, and an Executive Council with representatives of the tourism industry from the public and private sector.
