Following £40,000 worth of improvements, the Pen playground in Edenbridge will be officially opened next month for all younger residents to enjoy.
The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday 11 August at 12pm and will involve the ribbon being cut by Cllr Avril Hunter, portfolio holder with responsibility for playgrounds.
The request for improvements came from the Edenbridge Youth Forum and was developed by the Town Council’s outdoor youth provision partnership. The changes included new football goals, basketball nets and a new, higher fence. The community were consulted proposals and the work was finished earlier this year.
A free BBQ will be provided by West Kent Extra immediately after the official opening.
Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council's cabinet member with responsibility for playgrounds, says: "Now the works are finished, residents in Edenbridge can expect to see significant improvements to the site of the old ball court. What's more, local children will have the opportunity to enjoy new play equipment now its installed."
Cllr Terri Scanes, Edenbridge Town Council's Chairman, adds: "It has been enjoyable working with the young people and seeing The Pen project completed successfully. The Town Council was pleased to be able to provide the financial support needed and it is great to see the youngsters using and respecting it."
The new play area was funded by Sevenoaks District Council and Edenbridge Council with contributions from DCSF (Department of Children, Schools and Families), Playbuilder funding, Play England and Kent County Council.
