Time running out to put forward your young volunteer of the year

News release issued on 26 January 2010

Residents who'd like to nominate an unsung young hero who's made a difference through volunteering have until 26 February to enter this year's Young Volunteer of the Year awards.

The awards, now in their third year, celebrate the positive work of young people aged 14 to 18 who, over the course of the last year, have demonstrated commitment, achievement, leadership, innovation and creativity through volunteering.

Awards are available for young people who spend their spare time volunteering in their community, youth club, school, project or off their own backs.

Nomination forms are available at Sevenoaks District Council, town and parish councils, libraries, community and voluntary youth groups and schools. Nominations can also be made online by visiting the Young Volunteer of the Year page on this website.

High street shopping vouchers will be presented to the winners at an award ceremony in the spring and all nominated young people will receive a certificate.

Money will also be awarded to the supporting organisations of  the winner and runners up to help them to continue to support youth volunteering in their community and encourage more young people to get involved.

Cllr Pat Bosley, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for young people’s issues, says: "Time is fast running out to nominate young people for this year's awards. So if you know of a young person who has made a difference through volunteering, don’t miss this opportunity to put them forward so their hard work gets the recognition it deserves."

The awards are run by Sevenoaks District Council to publicly acknowledge and promote the positive work of young people from across the District.
