Celebrating Young People

News release issued on 18 January 2010

Pupils from across Sevenoaks District are teaming up to challenge the often negative perception which is portrayed of young people at a special event at Wildernesse School on Friday 5 February this year.

This event is being organised and run by the pupils of Wildernesse School who are keen to ensure that the positive work of young people is acknowledged and celebrated.

Young people from schools from across the Sevenoaks District, including Bradbourne, Furness, Hextable, Milestone and Swanley Technology College, will be taking part.

A variety of sessions and activities will take place including Dance Attack, recording video feedback in an inflatable diary room, getting involved in drug and alcohol advice and learning to write in braille. There will also be a Lunchbox Cook-off Challenge to help promote healthy eating, with plenty of audience participation. Dance, drama, music performances and presentations from local youth projects will also be involved within the programme.

The students will also get a chance to interview some of the adults who signed up to take part in a youth vs adults quick quiz.

Cllr Pat Bosley Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member with responsibility for young people, says: "This day is a fantastic way to recognise and celebrate young people's achievements across the District. It was created for, and by, young people to help their peers get actively involved in the decisions that affect them. This event will help pupils meet new people while having fun, it will also increase communication between adults and young people."
