Forum to help landlords improve their property and save money

News release issued on 13 January 2010

Landlords who would like to find out about the latest safety and energy efficiency requirements for rented properties and details of insulation advice and grants can attend a free event in Sevenoaks later this month.

The West Kent Landlords’ Forum, which will take place at Sevenoaks District Council Offices in Argyle Road on Wednesday 27 January, is open to all private landlords in West Kent.

Doors open at 6.30pm for light refreshments, and presentations will begin at 7pm.

The main focus of the event will be how landlords can keep their properties warm and safe in accordance with the law. Three presentations will cover energy efficiency grants for private rented properties, advice on gas safety and affordable solutions for insulating solid walls.

The forum is the latest in a series of free events organised by the West Kent Landlord Partnership to help local landlords. The Partnership is made up of Sevenoaks District Council, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and the National Landlords’ Association.

To book a place at the event, please call Steven Richardson at Sevenoaks District Council on 01732 227393 or e-mail housing@sevenoaks.gov.uk.

Cllr Carol Clark, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for housing, says: "These forums are always popular with landlords, as they are free and provide a range of useful information that can help them save money whilst improving their property for the benefit of their tenants. At the next forum, landlords can hear about their safety and energy efficiency obligations, so they don’t fall foul of the law, how to better insulate their properties and details of non-repayable energy efficiency grants."

Marion Money, Kent Representative for The National Landlords Association, adds: "I find that Landlords are not always aware that they have a duty to minimise 'excess cold' in their rental properties. At a time when we are all experiencing the effects of this record breaking cold winter, it is a great opportunity for landlords to hear the help available to make their properties more energy efficient."
