As Fairtrade Fortnight moves into its second week residents are reminded of the activities on offer which help raise awareness of Fairtrade.
“The Big Brew Tea Party” will include tea tasting and a Traidcraft stall and will be held at Christ Church URC Church Hall, off London Road, Sevenoaks from 2.30pm to 4pm on Saturday 6 March 2010.
The theme for Fairtrade 2010 is “The Big Swap”, and people are asked to swap their usual goods for Fairtrade goods. Fairtrade are looking for a million and one swaps to be made in Fairtrade Fortnight. The Sevenoaks Fairtrade Network is working with local schools to raise awareness of the “Big Swap” and schoolchildren will be given a Fairtrade teabag to encourage their families to change to Fairtrade brands. Each Sevenoaks “Big Swap” teabag will contribute one swap to Fairtrade’s target.
The Big Brew Tea Party and The Big Swap form part of Fairtrade Fortnight which runs until 7 March 2010.
Cllr Avril Hunter, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member and Sevenoaks Fairtrade Steering Committee member, says: "Fairtrade really has gone from strength to strength in this town, and this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of the products available and celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight."
Sevenoaks was officially declared a Fairtrade town by the Fairtrade Foundation in 2005, and renewed in 2007, after a successful application by the Sevenoaks Fairtrade Network, a group set up to promote Fairtrade locally.
