Swanley makes a PACT

News release issued on 19 February 2010

The most recent Swanley PACT Panel took place last Thursday 11 February at the Swanley Town Centre Offices where local priorities for action were identified.

PACT stands for Partners and Community Together, and the PACT panel is made up of local people and local public services who meet regularly to discuss residents’ community safety concerns.

The PACT Panel agreed three priorities for the next three months:

• Nuisance parking outside schools
• Underage drinking and criminal damage at the Skate Park
• Speeding in certain locations

The PACT Panel will now draw up an action plan to address these specific issues.

The PACT Panel gave credit to the ROSE Group for all their achievements and the possibility of a new residents group for residents in White Oak ward. Youth workers, are visiting various locations on Friday nights and the local youth club has seen an increase of membership. The PACT Panel is also working with KCC Highways to address issues in Swanley.

Cllr Elaine Bracken Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for community safety, says: "The progress made on a number of issues shows just how effective these PACT Panels can be. They are a great example of how much the local community benefits when residents and public partners work together."

The Sevenoaks District Community Safety Unit (CSU), has been successful since it opened in August 2009. Residents can easily report graffiti, criminal damage, abandoned cars, anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping to Sevenoaks District Council.

The next PACT meeting will be held on Thursday 13 May 2010, at 10am at Swanley Town Council Offices. To attend the meeting or raise an issue contact the CSU at Sevenoaks District Council on 01732 227000 and ask for a member of the Community Safety Team, or via e-mail community.safety@sevenoaks.gov.uk
