Sevenoaks comes top in council employer poll

News release issued on 18 February 2010

Sevenoaks District Council has been named as the best local authority employer in the UK, as part of the Times 'Best Companies to Work For' survey.

During the survey, staff from across the organisation were asked to complete a detailed questionnaire about many aspects of working for the council including leadership, social responsibility and staff engagement.

Sevenoaks came top of the table of local authorities and was one of only three councils to achieve a star rating.

Cllr Brian Ramsay, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for human resources, says: "This is a wonderful achievement and a credit to our staff. I understand that the definition of the survey used for staff engagement was "An employee's drive to use all their ingenuity and resources for the benefit of the company." To score so highly in this survey is very good news for the council and the community. This is a challenging time for local government and we are always looking to improve the way we deliver our services, this would not be possible without positive staff involvement."

Sevenoaks District Council is a finalist in this year's Times 'Best Places to Work in the Public Sector'. The winners will be announced on 11 March.
