Housing on the agenda

News release issued on 12 February 2010

Housing providers, health organisations, voluntary groups and other interested parties recently came together to discuss important housing matters affecting the Sevenoaks District.

Sevenoaks District Council’s annual Housing Forum gives those with an interest in housing the opportunity to hear about the Council and its partners’ future housing plans and for everyone to put forward their ideas on housing related matters.

This year’s guest speaker was Simon Bandy from the Homes and Communities Agency who explained the Agency’s new approach to providing funding to councils for local affordable housing and supporting infrastructure.

Other speakers covered how new planning policies will compel developers to provide more social housing in developments and how the Council provides services for vulnerable people in need of housing-related support.

This year’s Housing Forum took place in Sevenoaks on 10 February 2010 and was attended by approximately 70 people.

Cllr Carol Clark, Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for housing, says: "I was delighted with the excellent turnout for this year’s event. This annual forum gives decision makers and those who work in the business the opportunity to hear about the latest housing related matters and initiatives. Crucially it also gives everyone the chance to put across their ideas on how we can tackle housing related problems and issues. Wherever possible, these valuable ideas are incorporated into our future plans and proposals."
