Step in to Swanley and celebrate

News release issued on 04 February 2010

Twenty-five dance loving young residents will be recognised for their commitment to getting into shape at an awards ceremony in the coming days.

Certificates and medals will be awarded to the young people from the Swanley area who are part of EZ Stepz dance group by Cllr John Lankester, Sevenoaks District Council's chairman. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday 10 February from 5pm until 7pm at the Alexandra Suite, St Mary's Road, Swanley BR8 7BU.

EZ Stepz dance programme, which has been running for nearly four years, is aimed at eight to 15 year olds. The programme is about learning modern choreographed street dance. It's a fun and healthy way to exercise and meet new people in the local area.

Members of the group recently passed an exam which was designed to show a panel of judges what they have learnt during their time with the EZ Stepz dance classes and the medals and certificates will be awarded in recognition of passing the exam.

Cllr Pat Bosley, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for community development, says: “This celebration night is a great way for the young people to be acknowledged and rewarded for all the hard work they have put into this programme. The performance will be an entertaining way for other residents to see what it is that these young people have achieved."

The classes have been organised by Sevenoaks District Council in partnership with Sencio Community Leisure and is funded by NHS West Kent as part of the National Choosing Health agenda, which aims to make healthy choices easier.
